Can We Cut Compute Energy Without Losing Accuracy?

MISHE group was delighted to have today Dr Erivelton Nepomuceno (Associate Professor, Hamilton Institute, Maynooth University). As our models and simulations scale, so do their energy footprints. In his talk, Dr Erivelton Nepomuceno explored energy-aware computing—moving beyond a performance-only mindset to design workflows that are both efficient and sustainable. He walked through how to measure and optimize energy use across the full computational lifecycle, from model training and inference to large-scale simulation, and discussed the practical trade-offs between accuracy, runtime, and power.
