Irthasa Aazem VS
Irthasa Aazem is a Materials Researcher with a special focus on polymers and polymer nanocomposites and their functional applications in the biomedical and energy domains. He is currently working as a Post-Doctoral Researcher on a Translational research project under the Research Ireland ARC Hub for HealthTech. His PhD work was focused on the systematic investigation of polymer-based systems for triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) for wearable energy-harvesting and sensing applications. Before his PhD studies, he had also worked on a project focused on the development of nanocomposite-based antibacterial coatings for urinary catheters. His academic qualifications include a Master’s in Polymer Technology and a Bachelor’s in Polymer Science and Engineering from Cochin University of Science and Technology, Kochi, India.
His current research under the ARC Hub focuses on smart surgical implants for healthcare. This translational research aims at developing a biosensor-integrated surgical mesh which can be utilised for real-time sensing of surgical site infections (SSIs). The ARC-HUB Programme is a collaborative initiative between the University of Galway, ATU and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland(RCSI). The ARC Hub for HealthTech is co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Union through the ERDF Northern & Western Regional Programme 2021-2027.
