Dr Umar Khan

Dr. Umar Khan is a Lecturer in Chemistry at Atlantic Technological University (ATU) Sligo. He holds a PhD in Physics from Trinity College Dublin, along with MPhil and MSc degrees in Chemistry. His interdisciplinary expertise supports his research into 2D and low-dimensional nanomaterials such as graphene, MoS₂, WS₂, and silver nanostructures, particularly through liquid-phase exfoliation methods. Dr. Khan’s work explores the integration of these materials into biomedical sensors, flexible electronics, and polymer composites. Before joining ATU Sligo in 2016, he was a in charge of composite section, Research Fellow and commercialisation fellow at Trinity College and CRANN/AMBER, collaborating with industry leaders on nanomaterial applications. He has published over 60 peer-reviewed papers, accumulating more than 32,000 citations. Recognized among the top 1% of scientists globally by Web of Science in 2019.Dr. Khan continues to lead research on tuneable nanomaterials for biomedical applications while teaching and supervising postgraduate students at ATU Sligo.
