Dr Karina Litvinova

Dr Karina Litvinova, MASc, PhD, FHEA, is Head of the Clinical Photonics Group (CPG) and a lecturer in Biomedical Engineering. She is a Principal Investigator in the HEAL, PEM, and MISHE Research Centres. Her research advances biosensing and biophotonics for diagnostic and therapeutic applications in cardiovascular medicine and oncology. She specialises in medical laser systems (tissue welding, cardiac and cancer ablation), functional imaging, soft tissue engineering, medical robotics, and AI-driven medical image and signal processing using deep learning algorithms. With over 100 publications, six patents, and numerous invited presentations, Dr Litvinova has built extensive national and international collaborations. Her contributions have been recognised through a nomination for the “Top 50 Women in Engineering (#WE50 UK)” award in 2021. Current projects span the development of biophotonic sensing systems, medical laser technologies, and advanced functional imaging techniques for cardiac applications.
